GOODBYE THERESIEN TOWN

Director: Jonatan Jerichow, Carl Otto Dethlefsen More than 7.000 Danish Jews fled from Denmark to Sweden in October 1943. But 470 Jewish men, women and children were captured and deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in full cattle cars. 70 years after they were miraculously freed from Theresienstadt, six of the surviving Danes return. They return to the place that for 18 months destroyed their childhood and youth with hunger and fear of what the future would bring. In 'Goodbye Theresienstadt' we are told the story of failed escape attempts to Sweden, of the terrible transport to Theresienstadt, of the inhumane conditions in the camp and not least of the rescue of the Danish Jews shortly before the end of the war. It is a film about loss and hope – and about what Denmark did to protect Jewish citizens.
