Pursued - Tour

01/10/23

October 2023

Guided tour

This year marks 80 years since the Germans' action against the Danish Jews. But they were far from the only ones in Denmark who were persecuted. In the tour, in addition to the Danish Jews, we also delve into some of the other groups who had to live on the run.

Most of us have probably heard the stories about the persecuted Danish Jews who in October 1943 had to hide from the German occupation forces and flee to Sweden.

But during the occupation, many other groups also lived a life marked by persecution.

In this tour, we take a closer look at some of them and their fate in the time leading up to, during and after the Occupation: Why were they persecuted and by whom?

In addition to the Danish Jews, during the tour we also delve into the persecution of the Danish communists, the resistance people, the Danish police, the German refugees in Denmark and the resistance movement's call to persecute stabbers and 'German girls'.

What they have in common is that during the occupation they had to hide or flee to avoid being discovered, captured and, for some, sent on to a concentration camp, while others risked being executed, tortured or publicly shamed.
