80 years ago, the Danish Jews fled in October 1943. This summer, Viken's Maritime Museum is showing an exhibition about the flight of the Danish Jews.
In October 1943, the Jews in Denmark were threatened with deportation. Thanks to forewarning, almost the entire Jewish population in Denmark managed to flee to Sweden. They were received along the entire Scania west coast. 56 refugees arrived in Viken. 700 arrived at Höganäs. Over a thousand arrived in Helsingborg.
In their large display case, the museum shows a model of the escape routes and traffic in Øresund in the autumn of 1943. On 12 August, the minesweeper M20 arrived in Viken. The M20 was one of the ships that rescued many refugees and brought them to safety in Sweden.
