Voices in the silence
24. April 2023
Movie screening
The Danish Jewish Museum and Humanity in Action in Denmark are pleased to invite you to the launch of the animated film Voices in the silence, which tells the story of the former chief rabbi in Denmark, Bent Melchior, and his family's escape to Sweden in October 1943.
On the night between October 1 and 2, 1943, the action against the Danish Jews was initiated by the German occupying power in Denmark during the Second
World War. On the basis of a great joint popular effort and resistance to the action, the majority of the Danish Jews succeeded
to flee to Sweden. However, some were either taken or indicated and sent to Theresienstadt.
In 2023, it will be 80 years since these violent events took place. The film both tells and updates the story. Together with brand new teaching material, it invites debate about the values in a society that must help prevent history from repeating itself.
Today's keynote speaker is Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard. The film is then presented (18 min.) with a presentation on its importance and topicality. Afterwards, we offer a glass.
See you later!
